Obituary
Steven Carroll Finch, 78, passed away at his Washington residence, with his family by his side, during the afternoon of November 22, 2023. He was born on December 27, 1944, in Princeton, to William and Ann (Masters) Finch. Later, Steven and his family made their home in Mt. Carmel, Illinois and moved back to Indiana when he was twelve years old. On September 29, 1967, he married Wilma Wise, and together they made a loving home for each other and their two children.
Steven was a graduate of Oakland City College where he earned a degree in Welding, and a graduate of Vincennes University where he earned a degree in Tool and Die. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a Viet Nam Veteran.
For many years, Steven was a welder for the Peabody Coal Mine, then, prior to retirement, he was a security guard at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle. A true outdoorsman, Steven loved fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, and yardwork. He was a member of the Waco Church of Christ.
Those who now mourn Steven's passing include his wife of fifty-six years, Wilma Finch; daughter, Rochelle Dawn (Kevin) Archer of Odon; and son, Greg (Elnora) Finch of Washington. Steven was blessed with eight grandchildren: Zachary Byers, Makayla Finch, Adam Robling, Jacob Robling, Zane Abbott, Whitney Abbott, Demi Archer, Deion Archer; and twelve great-grandchildren: Shayla Jones, Hailey Doerner, Brendan Doerner, Lane Abbott, Zander Abbott, Cole Robling, Colena Robling, Madison Robling, Hoyt Robling, Mark Robling, Benson Robling, and Malikia Wininger. He also loved and adored his nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ann Finch; brother, William Finch, and sister, Jean Westfall.
Services for Steven Carroll Finch will be private.
