Joan Bitler, 71, passed away October 21, 2022. She was born in Washington, Indiana, July 24, 1951, to Daniel "Dan" and Agnes (Madden) O'Connor. On October 26, 1974, she married R. Kent Bitler. Together, they made a loving home for their three children until Kent's death on March 23, 1990.

Joan held an Associate Degree from IVY Tech in Medical Assistance. She was retired from the Women and Children's Clinic in Terre Haute. Joan enjoyed reading and baking. However, she was happiest when she was spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially attending their sporting events.

Those who now mourn Joan's passing include her children: Michael (Sarah) Bitler of Jeffersonville; Jonathan (Shannon) Bitler of Westfield; and Ashley Bitler of Sullivan. Joan was blessed with four grandchildren: Quinn Bitler; Kailey Bitler; Sidney Bitler; and Austin Bitler. Coming from a large family she leaves several siblings: Dorothy (Dave Hohnke) of Bloomington; Mary O'Connor of Springville; Nora (Dave) Blessinger of Washington State; Maggie (Robert) Speer of Burke, Virginia; John (Patti Wildman) O'Connor of Loogootee; Ed O'Connor of Loogootee; and Marty (Tom) Rossman of Cloverdale.

Joan knew the sorrow of loss with the passing of her parents, Dan and Agnes O'Connor and brother, Pat O'Connor.

Visitation for Joan Bitler will be 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Joan Bitler, 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 26, 2022, also at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble. Father Kenneth Walker will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
