Obituary

Leo P. Duer Jr. age 84 of Washington passed away Sunday at 11:30 AM at his residence. He was born on March 9, 1924 in Charlotte, Iowa to Leo Sr. and Kathryn (Burke) Duer. He was a graduate of Charlotte Public Schools and attended Iowa State University for one year. He had worked for McCord Corporation as a supervisor till they closed, he then went to work for the Washington Times Herald as a circulation manager, then went to work at Red Door Industries, then worked for a short tome for Greenwood Hardware Store. Then after retirement he went to work as a security guard for Clark Security at IP and L at Petersburg, and then for Owen Security at local coal facilities. He and his wife Bettye were part of the founding members of the Daviess County Association for Retarded Children and the Rosemary Kennedy School. He had served on the Red Door Industries Board and on Four Rivers Resources Board. He was also three time passed governor of the Washington Moose Lodge were he was a 28 year member and a member of the Washington K of C. Surviving are his wife Bettye Jo (Fowler) Duer whom he married on December 25, 1954,; two daughters and sons in-law, Kathy and Neil Bradford of Charleston, Il. And Sheila and Randy Morris of Washington; three sons and daughter in-law, Leo P. Duer III of Washington, Lawerence (Duer) and Kathy Bly of Lancaster, Ca., and Rande (Duer) Bly of Birmingham, Al.; five grandchildren and spouse, Karrie and Chad Craney of Washington, Craig Wilson of San Antonio, Texas, Paul Bly of Oregon, Ryan Bly of Alabama, and Richard Bly of Michigan; two step grandchildren and spouses, Bryan and Evelyn Morris of Washington and Rebecca and Mark Rubick of Mississippi; three great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; and step great great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 TO 8 PM at Ed Lee Mortuary with a Moose Memorial service at 3:00 PM and a K of C Rosary at 7:45 PM. Cremation has been scheduled there will be no funeral services. Memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society or one of the Moose Charities.
