Obituary

Emery L. Helderman, 74, of Washington, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Sunday at his residence. Born September 7, 1934 in Vona, Colorado, he was the son of the late Maitland and Mavis (Leao) Helderman. A 1952 graduate of Alfordsville High School, he was a member of the Washington Conservation Club and the Veale Creek Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran serving in Germany from 1957-59. He retired from Crane after 35 years of service and was a lifetime farmer. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Taylor) Helderman, whom he married June 20, 1959; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn Denise and Mike Rose of Linton and Lisa Dawn and Randy Wininger of Washington; two sisters, Alice Sharp of Wheeling, WV and Ruth Miles of Washington; five grandchildren, Jessica McKee and her husband Derek and Steven Rose and his wife Laura all of Linton, Travis Wininger of CO, Crystal Wininger and Tammy Wininger both of Washington; and the apple of his eye great-granddaughter, Abbigail McKee of Linton. His son, Emery Helderman Jr died March 22, 1989. Private funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Bro. Frank Patterson officiating. Burial was in Alfordsville Community Cemetery with full military graveside honors conducted by the Washington American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
