Obituary

Dorothy J. Borders, age 81,of Washington, Indiana, passed away on October 19, 2008 at Washington Nursing Center following a brief illness. Dorothy was born in Petersburg in 1927 to Walter and Bridget (Kane) Rodimel. She grew up in rual Daviess County and Washington. She was educated at St. Simon Eemetary School and Washington Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1945.She was a life time member of St. Simon Catholic Church and sang in the mixed choiron special occasions. During and following her high school years, she worked for Dr.Wedeking at his Main Street optometry practice. She married her high school sweetheart, Harry Borders, when he returned from military service in 1948. Together for 55 years, they raised three sons in Washington. Her beloved husband, Hurry, passed away in 2003. In 1960, Dorothy began a long career with Sears, Roebuck and Company in Washington. She retired from her position as Credit Mannager for Sears in 1987. Dorothy was an avid reader, and shared her love of literature as a tutor in the Adult Literacy Program. She also enjoyed reading to students as a volunteer at the St. Simon Elementary School library. Dorothy enjoyed almost daily, and wildly competitive, games of Scrabble with her sister and best friend, Betty Larkin, until Betty's death in 1995. She is survived by her sons, Tony of Washington; Kevin of Indianapolis; and Brian, who lives in Chevy Chase, Marland with his wife Grace Morgan and their two children, Kane Walker and Caroline Ward Borders. She was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Miller, Laverne Rodimel and Betty Larkin, and by brothers, John, Arthur, Charles and Alvin Rodimel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Gordon Mann as celebrant Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday at Ed Lee Mortuary with a wake service at 4:00 PM. Memorial Donations may be made to Washington Catholic Education Emdownment P.O.
