Obituary

Connie Louise (Bateman) Lutz left us peacefully on February 23, 2025. Her family and friends had held vigil by her side during her final days. She was in the loving care of the Hospice Team at the Cleveland Clinic.

Connie was born October 20, 1959, in Washington, Indiana, the daughter of Clifford and Betty (Kempf) Bateman.

Connie leaves behind a legacy of love reflected in her son, David Alexander Lutz (fiancée, Samantha Ann McKillen); her loving twin sister, Carroll (Bateman) Rourke of Washington; and her niece, Katherine Carroll (Phil) Valos of Arlington, Virginia. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

As a child, Connie was a member of the Washington Swim Club under the direction of Carol Olsen. At a young age, she excelled at swimming - receiving numerous awards, including Outstanding Swimmer for two seasons, scoring the most points for the club.

Connie was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1977. She continued her education at The Ohio State University. After graduating, she relocated to Sunnyville, California, continuing to work in graphic engineering and design in the Silicon Valley. Later, she returned to the Midwest and was employed by Goodyear Corporate Headquarters in Akron, Ohio, where her graphic engineering and design skills were utilized.

As her family grew, she moved to New York, centering her life around her son, David Alexander Lutz. When David began his college career, Connie relocated to the United States Virgin Islands to work alongside her twin sister. Her expertise in graphic engineering and design helped expand the family business. Connie continued to challenge herself, returning to the Midwest to pursue a second degree in accounting. She became a loyal employee for the Department of Finance and Accounting Services, U.S. Federal Government, in Cleveland, Ohio, where she served as a lead contact representative. There, Connie thrived as an instructor, sharing her expertise of personnel management and educating existing personnel in the area of finance.
In honor of Connie's life and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that any charitable donations be made to the Catholic Community of Washington Education Endowment, PO Box 916, Washington, Indiana 47501, or the American Cancer Society, 5635 West 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46278.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 26, 2025, 1:00 pm EST, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 315 NE 3rd Street, Washington, Indiana. Father Paul Ferguson will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery.

After the interment, the family has planned a time for sharing and visiting with family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Washington Country Clubhouse, 908 Bedford Road, Washington, on April 26, 2025, 2:00-4:30 pm.
