Becky and family: Our heartfelt condolences to all. John and I often shared our Purdue heritage and always celebrated our Boilermakers. He was always so positive and his wit brought many smiles into so many lives, especially ours.

Our sincere empathy for Becky and all the family as they celebrate a life well lived by John. He was always so friendly and kind to us newcomers to Washington and then St Simon Parish in 1997. Loved his smile and fondness (in later years) for his dog, seems like his name was Newman. Much love and prayers sent upwards for the Dayton family. Joe and Beth Kirsch
Papaw, we may not have known each other for all my life, but every moment I have known you, I have loved and cherished. Your presence has been a constant source of love, strength, and wisdom in my life. From all the sweatshirts you bought for the colleges I was interested in; you’ve always been a pillar of support and a guiding light.
Thank you for raising such a wonderful family—one full of kindness, compassion, and resilience. I am honored to be a part of it. Your example of hard work, humility, and generosity has shaped each of us in ways words can hardly express.
Papaw, you have touched countless lives with your spirit, and I am grateful every day to be one of the lucky ones who call you family. Your legacy lives on in all the hearts you've touched, and I will carry your love with me always.
Thank you for everything, Papaw. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
I got to know John in 1975. He was instrumental in helping me in starting a business. This continued for the next 33 years. Through those years we shared much including business decisions, family memories, ( he was so proud of his family ) basketball, and good times and bad times in our lives. When I married in 1990 he and my wife became best friends and had a lot of fun at my expense. They had this common bond about giving me a hard time that we all enjoyed. To show John's sense of humor, we would send a Christmas card each year and in it we would include a business card with both of our pictures on it. He would always ask if there was anyway to get one with my picture blacked out. Many times through the years even though he was my business consultant I would call him and start the conversation by saying this is not a business question it is a Big Brother question. That is how I felt about John. My heart is hurting and we will miss him so much. RIP our good friend. To Becky and the family we send our love and prayers. Ed and Maggie Schnarr
