Obituary
Donald "Donnie" Gene Halbert, 85, of Washington, passed away at in the early morning hours of November 22, 2024, at the Hillside Manor. He was born July 14, 1939, in Washington, the son of Norbert and Thelma (Belcher) Halbert. He was married to Lillian Alice (Gregory) Halbert, and they made their life together until her death on January 20, 2018.
After high school graduation, Donnie served his country honorably in the United States Army. Later, Donnie retired after more than twenty years with the AMC Coal Mine, where he did maintenance on heavy equipment. There he was known as "Tippy." His greatest joys came when spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.
Donnie is survived by his children: sons, Darin (Mitsy) Halbert of Martinsville; Don (Tina) Booker of Petersburg; Mike Booker and Dan (Brandi) Booker, both of Washington; Tony (Marti) Booker of Waco, Texas; daughters, Cathy Brown; Sherri (Jeff) Criswell; and Lisa (Dennis) Wilson, all of Montgomery. Donnie was blessed with twenty-two grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves a sister, Lois Wininger of Washington.
During his lifetime, Donnie mourned the loss of his parents, Norbert and Thelma Halbert; his wife, Lillian; sons, Troy D. Halbert and Mark Alan Booker; grandson, Cody Booker; brothers: Johnny Halbert; Bill Halbert; sisters: Beverly Howard and Brenda Morgan.
Visitation for Donald Gene Halbert will be 4:00-6:30 pm, Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.
Funeral services for Donald Gene Halbert will immediately follow the visitation on November 25, 2025, and begin at 6:30 pm, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary. Donnie will be accorded military honors at the cemetery when his burial takes place. It will be scheduled at a later date.
