Obituary
James Harold "Jim" Upton, 85, passed away in the early morning hours of March 4, 2024, while at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. He was born in Indianapolis on July 16, 1938, to Harold and Helen (Woodard) Upton. On April 9, 2022, he married Judy A. (Davis) Upton and she survives.
After high school graduation, Jim went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marines during the Viet Nam era. Later, he worked in the explosives department of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, commonly known as "Crane". Jim loved watching old war movies and spending time with his family.
Those who now cherish Jim's memory include his wife, Judy Upton; son, David Upton in Colorado; stepchildren: Steve (Karen) Hawkins of Roanoke, Illinois; Jamie Hawkins of Lawrenceville, Illinois; and Beverly (Will) Huff of Evansville. He leaves two grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. Additionally, Jim leaves two sisters, Sue Ogle of Martinsville and Margie Grau of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Upton; his first wife, Ramona Upton; brothers: David Upton, Tom Upton, Lloyd Upton; and sister, Patricia Nay.
Visitation for James Harold Upton will be 9:30-11:30 am, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.
Funeral services for James Harold Upton will immediately follow the visitation on March 12, 2024, and begin at 11:30 am, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary. Pastor Brad Rainey will officiate.
Additionally, a graveside service will be held later in the day on March 12, 2024, at 2:30 pm, in the Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery, 3295 State Road 252, Martinsville, Indiana. Military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by the Martinsville American Legion.
