February 13, 1939 - May 20, 2022

George was a Washington High School graduate who went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1958-1962 as a radio operator onboard ship. He later retired from Allison Transmission where he worked from 1965-1995. There, he built transmissions and was an inspector. He was a member of the Trinity Gospel Tabernacle in Washington.

A man of many interests, George enjoyed working on cars, computers, and going to auctions at Dinkey's. George was happiest when he was spending time with his family - especially his great-granddaughters, Kimberlin and Marilyn.

Those who now mourn George's passing include his children: James Mathis of Washington; Charles (Sue) Mathis of Indianapolis; Lisa (Randy) Stedman of Plainville; and Michael (Tracy) Mathis of Washington.
