Obituary

Rita Burns, 72, passed away at the Ketcham Memorial Center, Odon, Indiana, March 31, 2022. She was born in Bedford, Indiana, September 23, 1949, to Chester L. and Dora (Hackney) Rowe. Rita married the love of her life, Bruce Burns, September 22, 1990, and they enjoyed over thirty-one happy years together. Her memory lives on through her surviving husband and beloved family.

Rita graduated from Oolitic High School in 1967 and earned her beautician license shortly after. She worked as a hairdresser for over thirty years, several of which were at Wright's Beauty Shop. She was an avid nature lover and enjoyed camping, fishing, and painting nature scenes. Rita loved animals and enjoyed horseback riding during her childhood, and passed on her equestrian knowledge to her children. She loved the farm life and caring for her family's horses, dogs, cats, and other pets over the years. Rita was known for her creativity which was demonstrated in her talents for painting, sewing, knitting, floral design, music and songwriting. Rita is fondly remembered for her unwavering kindness, compassionate spirit, and sacrificial love for others.

Those who now cherish Rita's memory include her husband, Bruce Burns of Odon; her children: Debbie (Tim) Brotzman of Washington; Kayla (David) DeLong of Evansville; and Kasey (Armond) Jones of Indianapolis. Rita was blessed with four grandchildren: Sean (Ellie) Buckley; Aiden King; Van DeLong; and Ben DeLong. She leaves one great-grandchild, Carter Buckley.

Rita is now united with her loved ones who preceded her in death: her parents, Chester and Dora Rowe; as well as her sisters, Kay Wilson; and Peggy Ann Rowe.

Visitation for Rita Burns will be 1:00-5:00 pm, Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, North Chapel, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.

Funeral Services for Rita will be at 5:00 pm, Sunday, April 3, 2022, immediately following the visitation, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, North Chapel. Pastor Tom Watson will officiate.

To honor her wishes, there will be no burial service as Rita's final resting place for her ashes will be determined at a later date.
