Obituary

Darlene M. Carter, 80, passed away while at the Daviess Community Hospital, Monday, December 13, 2021. She was born May 22, 1941, in Wabash, Indiana, to John and Dolly (Doane) Alvey. On May 22, 1998, she married Howard Carter. He preceded her in death on February, 15, 2020.

Darlene was self-employed as a home care worker. She also was an avid cat lover, so much so that she raised and sold them for thirty-five years. Darlene attended the Gospel Center in Petersburg.

Those left to cherish Darlene's memory include: her son, Terry (Marlene Hicks) Emmons of Washington, and her daughter, Lisa (Dean) Hammack of Greenfield. Darlene was blessed with five grandchildren: Hunter Emmons, Terry Emmons, Jr., Kristi Dawn Emmons, Chad (Tina) Kluemper, and Tonya Poynter. Additionally, Darlene had a great-granddaughter, Chareiss Graham, as well as eight other great-grandchildren.

During her life, Darlene mourned the loss of her parents, John and Dolly Alvey; her husband, Howard Carter; a brother, Joe Alvey; and a sister, Sue Purdue.

There will be a graveside service for Darlene Carter on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 11:00 am, in St. John Cemetery. Pastor Byron Holtsclaw will officiate.
