Obituary

Donald Thombleson, 92, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021. He was born in Washington, June 4, 1929, to Newton E. and Catherine (Bahr) Thombleson. On October 20, 1956, he married the love of his life, Greta Maye (Brotherson) Thombleson. They made their home together for the next sixty-five years.

A 1947 graduate of Washington High School, Joe served his country honorably in the United States Army. He served in Korea. After the service, Joe was a railroad engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, commonly known as Crane. He retired from Crane in 1984.

A man of many interests and talents, Joe was a beloved Boy Scout Leader who led his troops on many spelunking adventures. He was a former stock car racer, and a gifted woodworker. He loved the outdoors and in earlier years, raised horses. But most of all, he was a devoted family man who loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He also cherished and found time for his many friends. He attended the Free Methodist Church in Washington and was a Sunday School teacher there.

Those who now cherish Joe's memory include his wife, Greta; and his four sons: Patrick (Sharon) Thombleson of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; Mike Thombleson of Greenfield; Terry (Hannah) Thombleson of Washington; and Tim (Deedra) Thombleson of Martinsville. Joe was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Matt (Heather) Thombleson; Jeff (Ashley) Thombleson; Donald (Amanda) Thombleson; Mitch Thombleson; Macy (John) Raine; Bryce Thombleson; Gayla Thombleson; Mikki (Chris) Riley; Christian Thombleson; Josh Thombleson; and Katie Thombleson. Additionally, there are fifteen great-grandchildren.

Joe is now reunited in Heaven with loved ones already there: his parents, Newton and Catherine Thombleson; his grandson, Logan Thombleson; his sister, Wilma Shelton, and his mother-and-father-in-law, Matt and Accra Brotherson.

Contributions in Joe's memory can be made to the Free Methodist Church, 1155 Troy Road, Washington, Indiana 47501
