Obituary

Gladys E. Traylor, 87, of Montgomery passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. She was born on May 18, 1933, in Daviess County to Mabel (Carrico) and Orbey Wathen. She graduated from Montgomery High School in 1951.

Throughout her life, Gladys focused much of her energy and talents on helping others. For more than 30 years, she worked as an administrator for the family agribusiness, Traylor Fertilizer Service, Inc. And, as a businessperson, she and her husband nurtured fertilizer and trucking businesses, a grain and feed mill, and a cheese manufacturing business providing countless job opportunities for the communities of Daviess, Martin, and Dubois Counties. She was a selfless mother and grandmother for five children and their families but likewise acted behind the scenes to provide spiritual and financial support for many others. As a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and Altar Society, she loved her church family and anchored her life in leading by example as a servant of God.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald Joe Traylor (m. October 11, 1952); four sons Greg (Angie) Traylor, Brian (Sharon) Traylor both of Montgomery, Mark Traylor of Washington and Michael (Derek) Traylor of Portland, Oregon; daughter Lisa (Jim) Riggins of Bloomington; two brothers Robert Wathen of Poland, Indiana, and John Wathen of Warren, Michigan; three sisters Mary Butcher of Beech Grove, Agnes Wilcoxen of Loogootee and Helen Traylor of Montgomery; seven grandchildren Mandy Rodewald and Dr. Adam Traylor (Greg); Justin Harris and Elizabeth, Emily, and Shane Butler (Mark); Amy and Breanna Traylor (Brian); Ben and Clay Riggins (Lisa); and seven great-grandchildren Bella Rodewald (Mandy); Cece and Lily Harris (Justin); Paxton, Cannon, and Ada Traylor (Adam); and Grace Riggins (Ben).

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Tom Wathen of Lafayette and Patrick Wathen of Indianapolis; sister Louise Gervasio of Greenwood; and granddaughter Mallory Riggins (Lisa) of Bloomington.
