Obituary

Ruth L. Singleton, age 94, of Washington passed away at 4 a.m. Friday at Washington Nursing Center. Born November 26, 1916 in Washington, she was the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Allen) McBride of Plainville. A 1934 graduate of Plainville High School, she was a member of the First Christian Church of Washington. At age 73, she retired from the deli department of Rogers Grocery in Washington after many years at that position. In prior years, she worked at various occupations in the Plainville area, but her most dedicated vocation in life was a loyal helpmate to her loving husband, Ray, on the family farm. As a team, they were well known as square dancing enthusiasts, their horse related activities, and for their unending loyalty to the Plainville Lions Club. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Jerry Osmon of Elnora and Donna and Bill Jones of Lake Wales, Fl; a grandson, Terry (Cheryl) Jones of Washington; granddaughters, Shannon Wirey of Lake Wales, Fl, Glenda (Matthew) O'Connor of Elnora, and Lea Anne (John) Crooks of Shelburn; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Her husband, Ray Singleton, whom she married November 26, 1938, passed away in 1970. Her brother, Haskell McBride, and her sister, Lossie Hammel are also deceased. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Bro. Dick Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Plainville Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service at the mortuary. Online condolences may be sent to www.edleemortuary.com.
