Obituary

John J. "Jack" Hoefling, 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 02, 2007, at the Daviess Community Hospital with his loving family at his side. Born February 7, 1928, in Evansville he was the son of the late Leo and Norma (Heitzmann) Hoefling. He was a graduate of Washington Catholic High School and Indiana University and a member of St. Simon Catholic Church where he was a member of the men's choir. He was owner and operator of Hoefling Truck & Tractor for many years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War having served in Japan. He was a member of the K of C, the Moose, and a 50 year member of the Elks, the American Legion and the Rotary where he was a past president. He served on the Board of Directors for Peoples Bank, Daviess County Hospital Board having served as a past president, Co-chaired the establishment of YMCA Gwaltney Aquatic Center, and in 1978 served as President of the Indiana Implement Dealers Association. Surviving is his wife, Sallie J. (Williams) Hoefling, whom he married October 22, 1953, two sons and daughters-in-law; Lee Joseph and Karen Hoefling of Washington, and David John and Franny Hoefling of Washington, a daughter and son-in-law; Lynn Marie and Jeff Stafford of Monroe City, six grandchildren; Sarah Graber, Speedway, Amy Hoefling, Atlanta, GA., Ryan Russell, Evansville, Lauren Wilson, Washington, Nicholas Russell, Evansville, and Emily Croch, Bloomington, and four great-grandchildren; Zabree and Brooklyn Russell, Evansville, Ava Graber, Speedway, and Dominic Wilson, Washington. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Sharon Hoefling. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Simon Catholic Church with Father Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary with a wake service at 4 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Community of Washington or to Father Louis Mulcahy in care of St. Meinrad Archabbey, 100 Hill Drive, St. Meinrad, Indiana, 47577.
