Obituary
William Richard "Bill" Strockbine, age 87, of Washington, passed away at 2:00 AM on Saturday, February 28, 2014, at his residence. Bill was born on April 13, 1927 in Indianapolis the oldest of seven children of Earl L. and Nola (Johnson) Strockbine. He spent most of his childhood in southern Illinois. Bill served in the US Army from 1945 to 1947 where he spent most of his time in Germany. His main duty was to accompany the displaced Jewish captives back to their homeland of Poland by train. After serving his country, bill worked for General Motors in Indianapolis for 30 years. Bill was also an accomplished organist who enjoyed playing for Mt Gilead United Methodist Church which he was a member. Many years ago he was invited to serve as guest organist with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis. He was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge of Indianapolis. Bill moved to Washington area in 2004 to live near his step-daughter, Betty Andis, daughter of is deceased wife Dorothy Strockbine. He married Nancy (Hughey) Taylor on April 8, 2006 and she survives. Also surviving are Nancy''s daughters; Rae Ann (Jim) Brown, sandy (Randy) Burris, and Linda S. (Gene) Bresh all of Washington, and Nancy (Rob) Case of Loogootee, 9 step grandchildren; 14 Step great grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Patricia Mills of Arizona, Shirley Ann Smith of Missouri, Carolyn Blair and Marilyn Donovan both of Illinois. Also preceding Bill in death are his parents, a brother, Dale Bud'' Strockbine, and a sister, Dottie Maden. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Clarence Miller officiating. Burial will follow in New Veale Creek Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 pm on Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
