Obituary
Thomas William Wathen, age 99, of Newhall, California, formerly of Washington, passed away on Friday May 14, 2010 at his residence. He had worked as a maintenance janitor for St. Mary Church, St. Mary School and the convent as well as a school bus driver for many years. He had also worked for McDonald Chevrolet and the B and O Railroad. He had retired from Indiana State Highway Department. Tom in 2000 moved to California to live with his som. Will living in California he enjoyed the weather, the flowers and taking walks. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Studio City, California and a life member of the Washington Knights of Columbus. He is survived by one son, John Randall Wathen of Newhall, California; two grandsons, John M. Wathen of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Sean T. Wathen of Fort Lauderdale. Florida; two great grandchildren, Georgia Abigal Wathen and Mathew Gerald Wathen both of Martinsburg, West, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine (Kunkler) Wathen on December 29,1997, whom he had married on November 15, 1945; one son, Hugh Wathen October 21, 1982; one sister, Agnes Wathen; and two brothers, George Wathen and James Wathen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery with Military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM with a K of C Rosary at 7:30 PM at Ed Lee Mortuary. Condolences may be sent online at www.edleemortuary.com
