John J. Toy age 82 of Montgomery passed away at 7:58 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Born July 1, 1925 in Daviess County, he was the son of the late John C. and Margaret M. (Grannan) Toy. He was a 1942 graduate of Montgomery High School, served in the Navy as a parachute rigger in WWII, and was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Surviving is his wife, Mary Rita (Fegan) Toy, whom he married August 17, 1950; three daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Bill Seal and Margaret "Peg" and Bill Petty all of Montgomery, and Catherine Schroeder of Washington; five sons and daughters-in-law, John E. and Janet Toy of Jasper, Dennis P. and Julie Toy of Montgomery, Stephen G. Toy of Vincennes, Joseph P. and Stephanie Toy of Bloomfield, and Mark R. Toy of Montgomery; two brothers, James M. Toy of Canton, Ohio and Vincent Toy of Washington; three sisters, Betty Craney of Montgomery, Agnes Wade of Washington, and Mary Mullen of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren, Renee (Petty) Cox, Melissa (Schroeder) Dragoo, Amanda Toy, Rhonda (Petty) Canada, Patrick Toy, Laura (Schroeder) Armes, Sarah Toy-Ding, Robin (Petty) Spinks, T. J. Schroeder, Valerie (Schroeder) Clarke, Ross Petty, Kathryn Toy, and John Jeremiah Toy; and 7 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church with Father James Koressel as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ed Lee Mortuary in Washington with a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Cemetery, C/O Kevin Hart, 9881 E. 200 S., Cannelburg, IN 47519.
