Obituary

Thomas Boniface Cavanaugh age 90 of Cannelburg passed away at 2:42 p.m. Wednesday at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Born October 20, 1917 in Cannelburg, he was the son of Dennis F. and Ernestine (Gough) Cavanaugh. In 1929, Tom and his family moved from Cannelburg to Wayne, Michigan. After graduating in 1935 from Wayne High School he traveled to Southern California and worked at Pacific Aviation before joining the U.S. Army where he served in the Occupied Forces in Japan during World War II. Tom's main career was with Trans World Airlines during which he held administrative positions in Hawaii, Tokyo, the Philippines, India, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Kathleen, moved back to his home place in Cannelburg where they have lived for the past 37 years. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and was an avid golfer winning the Hodagay, Japan Golf Tournament. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Richards) Cavanaugh, whom he married July 16, 1970; a sister, Catherine Enggass of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two nephews, Michael Cavanaugh of Palm Springs, CA and Thomas Cavanaugh of San Juan Capistrano, CA; three nieces, Claudia Scioly and Candace Willard both of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Jessica Lowe, of Edgewood, New Mexico; and several great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Mark and Dennis M. Cavanaugh; and three sisters, Mary Cavanaugh, Helen Cavanaugh, and Jean Willard. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church in Cannelburg with Father James Koressel as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Washington American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church with a rosary at 4 p.m. For those who wish memorial donation may be made to Cannelburg-Montgomery St. Vincent DePaul Society P.O.
