Obituary

Richard 'Dick' Nalker age 68 of Plainville formerly of Indianapolis passed away at 3:42 p.m. Saturday at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington. He was born on February 6, 1939 in Washington to William and Lillian (McCoy) Nalker. He was a 1957 graduate of Washington High School and a US Army Veteran of the 151th Airborne. He retired from the Indianapolis Star in 2001 and was an avid IU fan. He and his loving wife Betty in their 49 years of marriage, with love and affection, gave a home to 56 foster children. Surviving is one daughter, Kourtni Nalker of Indianapolis; two sons and daughter in-law Jay and Carol Nalker of Brownsburg, and Luke Nalker of San Francisco, California; three grandchildren, Robby Nalker and his wife Chelsea of Indianapolis, Eric Nalker of Brownsburg, and Stephanie Nalker of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Joann Brannies of Arizona and Betty Edwards of Alfordsville; and one brother, Brayton Nalker of Washington. Preceding him in death is his wife Betty (Byrer) Nalker whom he married August 4, 1957 and she died January 21, 2007. His parents; two sister, Helen Nalker and Norma Youngman; and two brothers, Robert Nalker and Dale Nalker are also deceased. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Plainville Christian Church with Bro. Chris Coney officiating. Burial will follow in Plainville Cemetery with military graveside rites by Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ed Lee Mortuary in Washington and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services at the church.
