William Alvin 'Billy' Gaines, age 71, of Washington passed away at 2:15 AM on Thursday at Eastgate Manor Nursing Home. He was born on January 25, 1938 in Washington to Alvin and Helen (Downey) Gaines. He was a US Air Force Veteran and retired in 1996 from Angleas Can Company in California. Billy was also an avid fisherman who taught his children and grandchildren how to fish. He is survived by his wife, Edna Marie (Bogard) Gaines whom he married on September 28, 1959; five daughters and son-law, Jodi Renne Alexander, Deanna Marie and Steve Clark, and Vicki Lynn Schmidt all of California, Nikki Lynn Baldwin and Emily Elaine Gaines both of Washington; three sons and daughter in-law, William Alvin Gaines Jr. of California, Wesley Alan and Patricia Gaines of Missouri, and Nicholas Anthony Gaines of Washington; six sisters and brothers in-law, Betty and Donald Roberts, and Mary and Jack Purdue all of Washington, Judith Woody of Shoals, Gwen and Keith Graber of Loogootee, Gale and Rick Adams of Spencer, and Tonja and Scott Fields of Bedford; three brothers, and sisters in-law, Sam Gaines, Terry "Mike" and Donna Gaines all of Washington, and Robert and Ellen Gaines of California; 17 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren, He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Helen Ruth Gaines; and two grandchildren.
