Virginia H. Arvin, age 85, formerly of Montgomery and Loogootee, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasper. Born May 4, 1924 in Dale, she was the daughter of Francis and Margaret (Klein) Fischer. She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and St. Martin Alter Society. She is survived by seven sons and daughters-in-law, James F. and Ann Arvin of Jasper, Thomas J. and Linda Arvin of Loogootee, Fredrick W. Arvin of Spencer, William L. "Bill" and Sondra Arvin of Bloomfield, Timothy G. and Karen Arvin of Evansville, Andrew C. "Andy" and Reba Arvin of Loogootee, and Kevin J. and Sallie Ann Arvin of High Point, North Carolina; eight daughters and sons-in-law, Maribeth and Lowell Graber, Margaret A. "Peg" and Mike Dages, and Patricia L. "Patty" and Mike Fuhs all of Montgomery, Clara M. and Rick Meyer of Dubois, Kathleen D. and Jim Warner of Petersburg, Martha J. "Marti" Arvin and Bud Kirkpatrick of New Albany, Jennifer R. and Tim Potts of Jasper, and Jacqueline S. "Jackie" Yokem of St. Anthony; two brothers, Frank Fischer and John Fischer both of Huntingburg; 34 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 step great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester C. Arvin, whom she married December 15, 1945, on June 10, 1966. Three sisters, Margaret Eble, Bernice Fleck, and an infant sister, and two brothers, Robert Fischer and Jimmy Fischer are also deceased. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Martin Cemetery in Whitfield. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery.
