Thomas J. "Tommy" Miles, 63, of Washington, passed away at 7:19 p.m. Tuesday at Daviess Community Hospital. He was born Feb. 26, 1950, in Washington, to Wilbur and Beatrice (McCain) Miles. A 1968 graduate of Washington Catholic High, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Washington American Legion, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He worked at First Federal Savings Bank. He loved Indiana University basketball, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, and the Lady Hatchets basketball team. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis M. (Nolan) Miles, whom he married June 5, 1976; one daughter, Gretchen Miles of Washington; one son, Brad Miles of Indianapolis; two sisters, Janie (Jack) Myers of Washington and Harriett (Dick) Walsh of Lafayette; one brother, John Miles of Washington; and three nephews; two nieces; and four great-nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and V.F.W. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with a wake service at 3:30 p.m. at the church. Memorial donations may be given to Washington High School Athletic Booster Club for the Hatchet Bus Fund, P.O. Box 428, Washington, IN 47501, or a charity of donor's choice.
