Thomas E. Layton, 85, went to his heavenly home Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Villages of Oak Ridge, Washington, Indiana. He was born on October 10, 1936, in Leavenworth Kansas, to Milton and Eleanor (Felix) Layton. Thomas married the love of his life, Leah J. (Ferguson) Layton on March 25, 1967, and she survives.

Thomas was a faithful member of the Elnora and Washington Churches of Christ. He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1956-1966, and retired from NWSC Crane in May 1992. Thomas enjoyed fishing for catfish, leather-work, and making knives. He was an excellent handyman; but, most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.

Family left to cherish Tom's memory include: his wife, Leah J. Layton; four daughters, Carla (Steve) Swartzentruber of Odon, Paula (James) Gingerich of Washington, Pamela (Richard) Gluck of Scottsburg, Susan (Christopher) Huelsman of Loogootee; and one son, Matthew Layton of Pendleton. Tom was blessed with thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Coming from a large family, Tom leaves four sisters and two brothers.

During his lifetime, Tom mourned the loss of his parents, Milton and Eleanor Layton; three brothers; and one sister.
Visitation for Thomas Layton will be held 4:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, North Chapel, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana. Military services will be held following the visitation at 8:00 pm by the Washington American Legion and VFW.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Washington Church of Christ, or the Elnora Church of Christ, and sent in care of Leah J. Layton, 1694 Troy Road, Villa 606, Washington, Indiana 47501
