Sarah "Sallie" Hoefling Sarah J. "Sallie" Hoefling, 81, died at 3:40 p.m. Monday, March 17, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville. Born December 20, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Anna (Gootee) Williams. A graduate of Washington Catholic High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Science degrees from Indiana University School of Education. She retired as a fourth grade teacher, having taught for 30 years at Washington Catholic Elementary and North Elementary. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Monday Afternoon Club, Tri Kappa, Arts and Flowers Garden Club, and the Divine Will Prayer Group. She was an avid reader and golfer. Sallie was preceded in death by her husband, John J. (Jack) Hoefling, whom she married on October 22, 1953. She is survived by two sons: Lee (Karen) Hoefling of Washington and David (Franny) Hoefling of Washington; one daughter: Lynn (Jeff) Stafford of Monroe City; six grandchildren: Sarah (Derek) Graber of Evansville; Amy (Brian) Cortez of Marietta, Georgia; Ryan Russell of Evansville; Lauren (Justin) Wilson of Washington; Nicholas (Melissa) Russell of Washington; and Emily (John) Crouch of Brooklyn, New York; and 12 great-grandchildren: Ava, Jack, and Lily Graber of Evansville; Zoe Cortez of Marietta, Georgia; Zabree, Brooklyn, Kingston, and Aaralyn Russell of Evansville; Dominic, Leo, and Cecilia Wilson of Washington; and Bella Russell of Washington. Surviving are two sisters: Carol (Bill) Olsen of Washington and Mary Lynn (Rodney) Bell of Jasper, as well as sister-in-law Linda Myers of Washington. She is preceded in death by one sister, JoAnn Clark, and three brothers: Joseph, PJ, and Bill Williams. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Reverend Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with a wake service beginning at 2:30 p.m. Preferred memorials are to St. John Cemetery 101 North Meridian Street Washington, Indiana 47501 and to the Daviess Community Hospital Foundation P.O.
