Rex Leon Delaney, 87, passed peacefully on May 22, 2026, at his home in Washington, Indiana. He married the love of his life, Rosemary (Wonder) Delaney, with whom he shared many cherished years until her passing.

Rex retired after many years of dedicated work as a concrete mason. In his free time, he enjoyed taking care of his home and yard, and he especially enjoyed the camaraderie he shared with his many friends. Rex was a quiet and independent man who found comfort in the simple things in life and often enjoyed peaceful moments to himself. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Moose Lodge alongside his wife during her lifetime.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Ron Mattingly (Susan), Sherry Hamilton Haswell (Dale), Scott Mattingly, Bert Mattingly (Anita), and Kim Shackleford (George); grandchildren, Lacy Summitt, Shanna Mattingly Madeira, Amanda Mattingly, Collin Mattingly, Hanna Adams, Taylor Mattingly, Justin Bishop, Clifford Gist, and Charity Cassiday; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Sammy Joe Delaney; and his sister, Myrtle Clements.

Rex was preceded in death by his father, Christopher Delaney; his mother, Alma Grace Potts; his son, Robyn Delaney; his sisters, Betty Jo Westhafer, Geraldine Ratliff, Eldina Palmer, and Esther Knott; his brother, Floyd Benjamin Potts; and his grandson, Joshua Delaney.

Rex will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for his family, and the gentle presence he brought to those who knew and loved him.
