Peggy Jean Smith, age 88, of Vincennes, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Peggy was born on March 27, 1938, in Jasonville to Wayne and Laverne (Hayden) Cox.

Peggy had several hobbies that included collecting dolls, refurbishing old jewelry into new pieces, and refurbishing Christmas ornaments, which she would display on several Christmas trees. Peggy enjoyed performing as a professional clown for several years; watching children smile and laugh brought her great joy.

Those left to mourn Peggy’s passing include two sons, Jason Clements of Washington and Tony (Deborah) Clements of Vincennes; two stepsons, Bradley Smith of Lakeland, Florida, and Douglas Smith of St. Petersburg, Florida; four foster sons, Zack (Alisha) Willis of Petersburg, Daniel Ragon of Colorado, Robert (Stacie) Nodine of Floyd Knobs, and Ronnie Eads; one sister, Rita (David) Matheny of O’Fallon, Illinois; two brothers, Roger Cox of Washington and Ronnie Cox of Kokomo; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation and celebration of life will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Wabash Community Church.

A funeral service celebrating Peggy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, with Pastor Dale Biehl officiating at Wabash Community Church, located at 1033 North 10th Street in Vincennes. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
