Mary Irene Upton, 87, Washington, passed away at 5:45 AM on Wednesday at Eastgate Manor. She was born July 19, 1918, to the late Eli Peter and Catherine (Moore) Lett. She was a graduate of Washington High School and attended Vincennes University. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by one son and two daughters; Rob Upton, Washington, Jo Adamson, Bloomington, Gayle Upton, Jasper, a brother, Joe Lett, Washington, a sister, Margaret Frakes, Corydon, 4 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil Upton, whom she married in 1952, and he died April 14, 1987, her second husband, John Burris, whom she married June 27, 1989, and he died January 14, 1997, a daughter, Carole Lee Fulk, two sisters Anna Dunbar, Jean Nolan, and one brother, Charles Lett. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 PM on Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Leo Kiesel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
