Mary E. Tomey , age 78, of Washington, went home to be with the Lord at 3:20Pm on Tuesday, at deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born on October 17, 1934 in Washington to Marcus and Hattie (Christenberry) Gasser. She attended Washington High School and she retired in 1990 from HWI in Medina, Ohio. She was a member of Faithway Baptist Church. She loved reading, butter flies, the Food Network and spending time with her family. She is survived by one son, James (Wanda) Tomey of Ohio; three daughters, Diana (Fred) Barr of Ohio, Glenda (Ken) Dornhecker of Texas, and Sheila (Steve) Whapham of Washington; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Angie, David, Jason, Justin, Cody, Holly, and Kelly.; great grandchildren, Kristopher, Hattie, Bryan, Sadie, Allie, and baby Tomey. She was preceded in death by her husband Dencil Tomey on September 17, 2003, whom she had married on October 16, 1951. She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Jimmy Williams; and one brother, Robert Gasser. Funeral Services will be 2:00PM on Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Pastor Terry Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery at Elnora. Visitation will be 1:00 PM till the hour of services on Sunday. Memorial Donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
