Mary Alice Smith, age 90, of Washington, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Washington Nursing Center. She was born October 1, 1919 in Martin County to Frank and Myrtle (Walls) Brown. She attended St. John Catholic Schools in Loogootee. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and Knights of St. John. . She is survived by one daughter and son in-law, Andrea and Gene Underhill of Washington; three sons and daughters in-law, Lowell Raymond and Mary A. Smith, Ralph Louis and Mary E. Smith, and Alan Michael Smith all of Washington; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Smith, whom she married on June 27, 1940, on July 5, 1997. One son, Clarke Thomas Smith passed away June 13, 1987. Nine brothers and sisters are also deceased. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Graehler as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Ed Lee Mortuary. Memorial donations may be made to Ed L.
