Obituary

Margaret “Agnes” Wade, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, March 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Agnes was born on May 7, 1934, in Daviess County, Indiana, to Margaret M. (Grannan) Toy and John C. Toy. She graduated from Montgomery High School in 1952, carrying with her the strong values and work ethic that would define her life. On August 27, 1953, she married her beloved husband, Paul Wade. Together they built a life centered on faith, devotion, and family — a partnership that was her greatest blessing.

Agnes worked at Uniroyal and later worked side by side with her beloved husband at the fertilizer plant and on the farm, before embracing her most treasured role as a homemaker. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and steady love. She had a quiet strength about her — the kind that held her family together and made everyone feel safe and welcome. Her greatest joy was always her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom carried a special place in her heart.

She leaves behind her children: Marsha Ann (Jay) Oswalt of Beech Grove; Martha Arvin of Greencastle; and James C. (Sally) Wade, Mike (Jenny) Wade, John Wade, Ronald (Mindy) Wade, and Pat (Michelle) Wade, all of Washington.

Agnes also leaves her cherished grandchildren: Michelle Mascus; Matthew, and Paul Arvin; Krista Swartzentruber; Victoria Rust; J. Jordan Wade; Hilary Jagodzinski; Ross Wade; Jackson Wade; Amanda Niles; Anthony Wade; Olivia Wade; and Caleb Wade; along with her 20 precious great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings, Vincent (Connie) Toy and Mary Mullen.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband, Paul; her grandsons, Benjamin Arvin and Robert Oswalt; her brothers, John J. Toy and James M. Toy; her sister, Betty L. Craney; and her son-in-law, Tim Arvin.

Though her family grieves her passing, they find comfort in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind — a legacy of unwavering love, gentle guidance, and a life faithfully lived for those she treasured most. Her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope on Friday, March 6, 2026.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Father Paul Ferguson officiating.
