Junita “Jo” Cain, age 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Junita was born on June 30, 1956, in Frankfort, Indiana, to Alma (Harness) Carroll and William Eli Carroll. She lived a life centered on love, family, and simple joys. Known for her warm heart and kind spirit, Jo had a way of making everyone feel welcome.

She found happiness in life’s quiet moments—spending time fishing, expressing her creativity through painting and sewing, and preparing meals for those she loved. Jo was a wonderful cook, and her kitchen was often the heart of her home. More than anything, she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and joy.

Those left to carry on her memory include her devoted life partner, David Lemon; her loving daughter, Chalka (James) Wininger; and her treasured grandchildren, Michael Heuser, Chelsey Heuser, and Sierra Jones. She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Junita was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and William Eli Carroll; her beloved son, Chalk Wessell; her daughter, Julie Wessell; her brothers, Samuel Carroll and Claude Cassada; and her sister, Lucy (Benton) Burris.

Jo will be remembered for her gentle soul, her love of family, and the many lives she touched with her kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
