Joyce Ann (Leavell) Gibson, 79, of Washington, passed away at 5:36 AM on Sunday at Jasper Memorial Hospital. Joyce was born on March 28, 1935 in Elwood, Indiana to Gerald and Beatrice (Heathcoat) Leavell. She was married to Thomas Henry Gibson on June 22, 1957 and had three children. She was a 1952 graduate of Cross Plains High School in Ripley County, Indiana and was retired from NSWC Crane. She was a member of Southwind Wesleyan Church in Washington. Joyce loved her family, and her granddaughters and great-grandsons held a special place in her heart. She had a strong and solid faith in God and she loved to serve in the ministries of her church. Joyce had a passion for IU basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. She is survived by her two children Lisa (Greg) Hartz, of Washington and Doug (Cathy) Gibson of Centralia, IL; three grandchildren Kylee (Rory) Brown, Courtney (Paul) Thompson, and Miranda Gibson; and two great-grandchildren Myles and Graham Brown; a sister, Sharon (Gerald) Hill of Washington; and a brother Gerald (Sharon Rose) Leavell of Lafayette, Indiana. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Henry Gibson on May 22, 2014; one son, Ronald Henry Gibson; and her mother and father. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Southwind Wesleyan Church with Pastor Phil Kessen officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00PM to 8:00 PM at the church.
