Obituary

Joseph E. Titzer, 87, went to his heavenly home on Monday, July 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on July 14, 1938, in Evansville, Indiana, Joe was the beloved son of Bernice (Steckler) and Urban Titzer. He graduated from Reitz Memorial High School before earning his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Evansville College. On June 12, 1963, he married the love of his life, Carol, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned more than 63 years and was filled with unwavering love, faith, and devotion.

Joe was a man of quiet strength whose dry sense of humor and playful teasing brought smiles to those who knew him best. Though he was naturally reserved and preferred a small circle of close relationships, those fortunate enough to know him appreciated his kind heart, thoughtful nature, and steadfast loyalty. The love he shared with his family, the kindness he extended to others, and the example he set through a life well lived will continue to be cherished for generations to come.

Joe enjoyed a career of more than 35 years at NSWC Crane Division. As an engineer, Joe had a remarkable ability to solve problems and build with purpose. He generously shared his talents and played a significant role in the Washington Catholic School building project, leaving a lasting impact on the community he cared so deeply about. He and Carol also owned several rental properties through the years, and Joe genuinely treasured the friendships and relationships he formed with his tenants, always treating them with kindness, fairness, and respect.

Joe found life's greatest joys in the simple moments. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course with Carol, getting lost in a good book, working crossword puzzles, riding roller coasters hands in the air with his grandkids, and tackling projects that allowed him to put his engineering mind to work. His quiet presence, gentle wisdom, and dependable character will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Joe was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, the Washington Knights of Columbus, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Carol Titzer; his sons, Phillip (Donna) Titzer and David Titzer; his grandchildren, Ryan (Caroline) Titzer, Alyssa (Alex) Tillas, Michael Titzer, John Titzer, and Matthew Titzer; his great-grandchildren, Madison and Ethan Titzer; his brother, Jerry (Margaret) Titzer; his sister, Mary Lou Titzer; along with several extended family members and dear friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Urban Titzer.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Father Paul Ferguson serving as Celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date.
