Obituary

James Richard 'Rip' Mattingly, age 93, of Washington Passed away on Saturday at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center. He was born on February 22, 1920 in Washington to Joseph and Alma (Alberti) Mattingly. He served in World War II with the US Army 741st Battalion. He was retired from the B and O Railroad. He loved gardening and camping with family and friends. He is Survived by two daughters, Dianna (Steve) Lett and Brenda (Jim) Cannon both of Washington; two sons, Larry (Monica) Mattingly and Gary (June) Mattingly both of Washington; one sister, Shirly Bunte of Bruceville; one brother, Donald Mattingly of Washington; nine grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Frankum) Mattingly, whom he married on November 22, 1941, on August, 15, 1990. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen "Pat" Reckes and Eleanor Sturgeon, and two brothers, Harold Mattingly and Charles Eugene Mattingly. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Yvonne Evans officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
