Obituary

Hugh Lawrence Hill, age 93, of Washington went home to be with the Lord at 11:29 a.m. Thursday at the Daviess Community Hospital. Born August 20, 1916 in Shelburn Indiana, he was the son of William Spurgeon and Emma (Wilson) Hill. He was a 1935 graduate of Washington High School and attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN. He worked as an engineer for the B & O Railroad for 35 years retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, Charity Lodge No. 30 of F. A. M., Conservation Club, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Local #289 where he had served as a secretary/treasurer. He was a gentle man who truly loved his family. They will miss his love and generosity of spirit for "His soul was pleasing to the Lord". He is survived by two daughters, Mary Alice (Larry) Hobson of Marshall and Susan Jane (John) Wood of Washington; a son, Michael D. (Jeanie) Hill of Washington; 9 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret D. (Bonham) Hill, whom he married October 27, 1939, on November 4, 2002. A daughter, Jill Ann Hill; a grandson, Daniel Hobson; 2 brothers, and 3 sisters are also deceased. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Pastor James Payton officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of service at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Christian Church. Online condolences may be sent to www.edleemortuary.com .
