George Ernest Strange, 91, went to his heavenly home on September 12, 2026.

George was born on June 16, 1935, to George Walstine and Elizabeth Rose (Wilson) Strange in a log cabin in Corning, Indiana. He graduated from Washington Catholic High School with the Class of 1953. On January 23, 1954, George married the love of his life, Leanna Jean (Davis) Strange. That same year, he joined the United States Army, proudly serving his country.

George and Leanna built a wonderful life together, raising their family and sharing 50 years of marriage before her passing on March 23, 2004. His love and devotion to Leanna remained an important part of his life throughout the years.

A hardworking and dependable man, George spent more than 30 years with the United States Postal Service. During much of that time, he also worked at Palmer Electric, something he took great pride in. George believed in working hard and providing for his family, and he was proud of the fact that he worked two jobs for many years. Even retirement couldn't keep him from staying busy, and after leaving the Postal Service, he went on to work at General Rental.

George was quiet by nature, but those who knew him knew they could always count on him. He enjoyed fishing, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, and, most of all, spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy, and the time spent with them was among his greatest treasures.

George was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and a former member of the St. John Cemetery Board.

Those left to cherish George's memory include his sons, Mark Ernest (Maureen) Strange and Roger Dale (Maria Patricia) Strange; grandchildren, Michael Ernest (Elisa) Strange, Matthew Emmett (Cindy) Strange, Mandy Elizabeth Strange, Mitchell Edward (Megan) Strange, Cecilia Maria Strange, and Anthony James Strange; six great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.

George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leanna Jean Strange; his parents, George Walstine and Elizabeth Rose Strange; his stepfather, Frank Pettigrew; and his sister, Mary Louise Buening.

George will be remembered as a quiet and steady presence—a hardworking man who took pride in providing for those he loved and who found his greatest happiness in the simple things: family, fishing, a Cardinals game, and time spent with the people who meant the most to him. His dependable nature, strong work ethic, and love for his family will remain a lasting part of the legacy he leaves behind.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Father Paul Ferguson serving as celebrant and Father Lowell Will as concelebrant. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Ed L. Lee Mortuary. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be performed by the Washington American Legion and VFW.
