Esther A. Fields Small, age 90, of Washington, passed away at 6:30 AM on Tuesday at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center. She was born on September 23, 1922 in Martin County to Homer and Mary (Gootee) Mattingly. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She and her first husband owned and operated The Hut in Plainville for a several years. She is survived by one son and daughters in-law, Ronald and Joy Fields of Alabama and Patricia Fields of Florida; five grand children; five great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert A. Fields; her second husband, Lewis Small; one son, Robert H. Fields; one sister, Mary Mattingly, three brothers, Harold Mattingly, John Mattingly, and Robert Mattingly. Funeral Services will be at 1:30 PM on Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Father Gordon Mann officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
