Eldena Simmons, age 83, of Washington , passed away at 5:50 AM on Wednesday at Washington Nursing Center. She was born on July 27, 1926 in Barr Township to Charles and Nellie (Potts) Reed. She was a member of the Washington Christ United Methodist Church. She enjoyed swinging on her porch swing will watching the people in the park. Loved her time with women in her church circle and looked forwarded to her weekly outings with her sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Iva Kay Simmons of Washington; five sons and daughters in-law, Robert and Susie Simmons of Newton, Illinois, Bernard Jr. and Pat Simmons of Jasper;, John Wesley and Shirley Simmons of Plainville, Ray Charles and Alice Simmons of Plainville, and Douglas Eugene and Charlotte Simmons of Plainville; two sisters, Lucille Stoll of Montgomery and Myrtle Leukhardt Washington.; sixteen Grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard E. "Preach" Simmons on July 15, 1998, whom she had married on September the 23, 1944; one son Skippy Simmons May 12, 1982; one sister Marcella Summers; two brothers, Floyd Reed and Robert Reed. and one grandson. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Rev. Marvin Cheek officiating. Burial will follow in Plainville Cemetery.
