Donald L. Mattingly, age 85, of Washington, passed away February 22, 2018 at Washington Nursing Center.
He was born on August 27, 1932 in Washington to Joseph and Alma (Alberti) Mattingly. He graduated from Washington Catholic in 1952. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War and had retired from U.S. Railways. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Donald loved sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his sons, Donald Mattingly, Jr. and Terry (Tammie) Mattingly both of Washington; daughter, Susan (Robert) Spalding of Washington; sister, Shirley Bunte of Bruceville; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma (Ketchem) Mattingly on April 17, 2002, whom he married, March 2, 1957; three sisters, Eleanor Sturgeon, Margorie Mattingly and Kathleen "Pat" Reckers; three brothers, Herald Mattingly, Charles "Gene" Mattingly and James "Rip" Mattingly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Washington American Legion and the VFW. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday at Ed Lee Mortuary with a wake service being held at 3:30 PM.
Memorial donations may be given to Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 315 NE 3rd Washington, Indiana 47501.
