IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Catherine Louise
"Katie" Patterson
April 24, 1925 – July 30, 2023
Catherine Louise "Katie" Patterson, 98, passed away July 30, 2023, at her Eastgate Manor residence. She was born in Loogootee, Indiana, April 24, 1925, to Michael Leonard McCarthy and Mary Florence (Mudd) McCarthy. On June 10, 1950, she married the love of her life, Leo "Pat" Patterson in the All Saints Catholic Church in Cannelburg. They enjoyed fifty-two years of marriage and provided a loving home for their son, Michael. Leo preceded her in death on August 2, 2002.
Katie attended St. Mary's elementary school in Barr Township. In 1944, she graduated from Montgomery High School. Although she worked in various jobs, Katie was employed as a nurses' aide for the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, and later, as a clerk for Sears for fourteen years. She loved cooking and baking - her coconut cream pies were always a favorite among family and friends. Katie enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a bowling league; but, she was happiest when she was spending time with family and friends. For many years, Katie had a standing dinner date with her chums, Trish, Barb and Donna, once a month at Mia Pueblo in Washington. In her earlier years, she attended All Saints Church in Cannelburg, and later became a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Washington and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Katie spent her remaining years at Emerald Place and later moved to Eastgate Manor in Washington. She easily made many friends who enjoyed her great sense of humor and loved hearing stories about her life experiences. She will be greatly missed.
Those who now mourn Katie's passing include her son, Michael J. Patterson; granddaughter, Jennifer (David) Yoes; and great-granddaughters: Natanie Yoes and Kaelynn Renee Yoes, and a great-granddaughter, Eliana Anne Yoes, 2 months old, all in Texas. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Dorothy McCarthy and Rosa McCarthy.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mary McCarthy; her husband, Leo "Pat" Patterson; her son, Dennis Patterson in 1980; sisters, Helen (Narvin) Fullerton and Clara (Joe) Doyle; and brother, Donald McCarthy.
Visitation for Catherine Louise Patterson will be 9:00 - 10:45 am, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Father Paul Ferguson will be the celebrant. Katie will be laid to rest beside her husband, Pat, in the St. John Cemetery in Washington.
