Obituary

Dr. Carl Bernard O''Connor, DDS, age 92, of Washington passed away at his home on December 24, 2014. Carl was born July 27, 1922 in Montgomery, Indiana to Corrine (Arvin) and Matthew A. O''Connor. He graduated from Montgomery High school in 1940. He served as a US Marine Corp Bomber Pilot and obtained the rank of Captain. Carl graduated from Vincennes University in 1949 and St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1953. He married Betty Wade on August 18, 1944 in Cherry Point, N.C. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Montgomery, the American Legion Post 121, VFW, the Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree K of C, Moose, Rotarian, Board of Directors of Indiana State Board of Examiners of Dentistry, president of the First District Dental Society from 1969 to 1970, he was president of St. Simon''s Parent-Teacher Association in 1958, president of St. Simon''s CCD for four years, he was president of the local Industrial Committee from 1958 - 1961, president of the Jaycees in 1957, received the Outstanding Service Award in 1961, was a director for 20 years on the YMCA board, and chairman of the board at the YMCA 1968-1971, and oversaw the building of the Aquatic Center at the Y, Parish Council for St. Simon Church 1962-1965, and he received the Brute Award from the Diocese of Evansville, also awarded the Laetare Award in 1966 and also in 1966 was voted "Father of the Year." He owned and operated his own dental practice for forty-two years. He is survived by his wife, Betty O''Connor, daughters; Julia Ann (Michael McAninch) O''Connor of Westfield, Jan (Jim) Evrard of Washington, Lori (Dana) Craig of Yadkinville, N.C., sons; Jim (Sheryl) O''Connor of Walton, KY, Pat (Chan) O''Connor of Greenwood, IN and Mark (Yumi) O''Connor of Washington, one brother, Herman O''Connor of Montgomery, twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Carl is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Fuhs, and brothers, Harold O''Connor and Ottis O''Connor. A mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery. Burial with full military graveside rites to follow by the Washington American Legion and VFW in St. John Cemetery, Washington. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 pm Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Monastery, 802 E. 10th Street, Ferdinand, IN 47532.
