Betty Joyce Metheny was born on August 15, 1935 in Echola,
Alabama. She departed this life peacefully on July 9, 2019
in Defuniak Springs, Florida.

Ms. Metheny dedicated her life to her family and her

students. She received the distinguished honor of being

named Assistant Professor Emeritus of Nursing at the

University of Mississippi for Women after her many

years of service. Her hobbies included collecting antiques

and books, playing cards, gardening, and spending time

with her family.

She is preceded in death by Samuel and Edna Pate, Charles

Eugene Metheny, Charles Eugene Metheny II, Paul Metheny,

David, Lloyd, and Paul Pate, Michael Huck and Jim Adams.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her children

Rebecca Adams, Carolyn Hicks (Wayne), Michael Metheny

(Rose), and Katie Walker (Robert), her sisters, Margene

Dodson and Patricia Leroy, sixteen grandchildren, nineteen

great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-laws of the Metheny

and Pate family, Pamela Miller and several other nieces and nephews of the Metheny and Pate family, many friends, and former students.
