Obituary

Bernard Duncheon, 90, died on June 8. Born on May 23, 1925, in Cannelburg, he was the son of Mary (Walker) and Charles Duncheon. He married Anna Fern Gallagher on July 17, 1948, and she preceded him in death in 1999. A Montgomery resident, Bernard was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery, St. Peter Holy Name Society, and a charter member of the Montgomery Ruritan Club in which he was honored with the Ruritan Distinguished Service Award in 1998 for his years of community service. He was a heavy machinery operator with a dozing career that spanned nearly seventy years in Daviess and surrounding counties. The hundreds of ponds and lakes that he built through the years give testimony to his skill on his beloved Komatsu bulldozer. He is survived by daughters Maria (John) Knepp and Gina (Kelley) Graber of Montgomery, Donna (Kenneth) Spellmeyer Schnell of Jasper, Anita (Bud) Hart of Cannelburg; son Bernard Anthony "Tony" (Lisa) Duncheon of Montgomery; grandchildren Jon-Jon Knepp, Jeremy Knepp, Justin Knepp, Mimi (Knepp) Hoyer, Dr. Kristin (Spellmeyer) Werne, Katherine (Spellmeyer) Blessinger, Michael Spellmeyer, Nicholas Duncheon, Christian Duncheon, Ethan Duncheon, Matthew Hart, Nathan Hart, Keith Hart, Caleb Barley, and Olivia Barley; and fourteen great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, son John, grandson Patrick Knepp, brother Raymond Duncheon, and sisters Julia Greenwell, Margaret Feagans, and Wilma Spaulding. Visitation will be at St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday with a mass of Christian burial at the church on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
